The Gila Ridge Physical Education Department just received $2,000 from a local Walmart. The money will help them purchase new equipment.
The donation came after PE Department Chair Joe Daily applied for a Community Grant at the Walmart on 2501 S. Avenue B in Yuma. The grants usually range from $250 to $2,500.
“We will be utilizing the money to purchase new PE Equipment and replacement equipment. For example, we are buying replacement volleyballs, new Washoe games, pennies, etc.,” said Daily. “In addition, we are also purchasing equipment for our physical training and physical training for athletes classes. We will be purchasing new curl bars.”
Avenue B Walmart manager Jin Porter presented the check to Daily personally. Daily’s staff, as well as a portion of students who will benefit from the donation, were also present, extremely thankful for the money headed Gila Ridge’s way.
This will impact students by having more equipment to utilize and not having students wait for their peers to use the small amount of equipment we used to have,” Daily added. “This grant will help provide students an opportunity to be more engaged in the classroom and a more hands-on experience. We are so grateful for Walmart to provide this grant to our school and we appreciate their support for our community public schools.”
