Northern Michigan University senior Chloe Holt has received a Student Honor Award from the Society for Health and Physical Educators Michigan at its annual conference in November in Traverse City.
“The award is prestigious on a state level and recognizes students who excel in scholarship and both professional and community service,” said Jeffrey Wuorinen, NMU instructor, in a news release.
“I think it is an incredible reflection of how great Northern’s health and physical education program is,” Holt said. “There is a strong and good connection between the professors, and they put a lot of support and energy into how they teach. Our main focus as physical educators is to create lifelong fitness within our students and to change the way people think of PE.
“We do a little bit more than roll out the ball. We’re trying to make everyone a little bit healthier and a little more conscious and self-sufficient when it comes to physical education and health education.”
