IHT Impacts Congress – The State of Health and Physical Education in Our Schools

September 2010 marked the first Childhood Obesity Awareness Month – a month designated by Congress to draw attention to what has become a national epidemic. This effort was led by U.S. Representative Marcia Fudge and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Now, three years later we will look at what schools and school districts are doing to combat the childhood obesity issue, and the role Congress can play in reversing this unhealthy trend.

McAllen ISD uses PEP Grant to Implement Spirit System

Technology and fitness joined this past week to begin to track the progress of McAllen students in their physical education classes with the help of a federal grant.

McAllen high school students could have a personal fitness portfolio that tracks their progress until graduation with the tool known as the Spirit System from private Austin-based company Interactive Health Technologies, according to a news release from the district.
