Hendrickson community gears up for FitFest fundraiser

Hendrickson High School will host the Hawk Nation IHT Spirit FitFest Sunday, a fundraiser to purchase heart-rate monitors and related software for the school’s physical education department.

The Hawk Nation FitFest features a 5K fun run, a Kids K and a health and wellness expo for the community. Organizers aim to raise money to purchase adidas Zone for IHT Spirit wrist heart-rate monitors and the IHT Spirit System assessment software to enhance the school’s physical education department. IHT Impacts Congress – The State of Health and Physical Education in Our Schools

September 2010 marked the first Childhood Obesity Awareness Month – a month designated by Congress to draw attention to what has become a national epidemic. This effort was led by U.S. Representative Marcia Fudge and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Now, three years later we will look at what schools and school districts are doing to combat the childhood obesity issue, and the role Congress can play in reversing this unhealthy trend.
