IHT Spirit Mobile App

New IHT Spirit Mobile App Extends IHT Zone Distance Learning Tools

Tuesday,  Sept. 19, 2017, IHT released its newest tool to further personalize physical education for every student: the IHT Spirit Mobile App.

The new mobile app, available as a free download through the Google Play and iOS App stores, enables users to take part in physical education classes and workouts connected to the IHT Spirit System® outside of the traditional school day and classroom. By controlling their IHT Zone wrist heart rate monitors on their mobile phones, students connect back to classroom workouts or track workouts they design themselves.  

IHT worked to develop a mobile app that takes the monitors beyond the classroom. A growing number of students fulfill their physical education requirement outside of the traditional classroom setting. More than 55 percent of U.S. school systems offer students the opportunity to take physical education as part of a virtual learning program. Read More

Student Effort to Achieve MVPA Improves Confidence, Fitness

Sept. 13, 2017 – By pairing a daily goal with new heart rate technology, students at Odebolt Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove High School (Ida Grove, Iowa) proved they can take ownership of their own fitness programs.

Students in Jeff Miesner’s physical education classes began using the IHT ZONE wrist heart rate monitors in October, 2016. At the start, students participated in workouts Miesner developed. Months later, the teacher felt comfortable stepping back, observing and encouraging students as they worked toward each day’s goal of minutes of Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity. Read More

Ann Arbor adapted PE students use HRMs to manage their health

July 19, 2017 – A teacher’s unique use of heart rate monitors helped Ann Arbor, Mich., adapted physical education students learn to manage their health during the school day.

During a pilot program directed by Ann Arbor Public Schools Adaptive Physical Education Teacher Consultant Deak Swearingen, 30 students wore the IHT Zone heart rate monitors during their PE classes. While many students have health issues — some severe — and cognitive disabilities, Swearingen saw unexpected success with students learning to self-manage.

I wasn’t sure the monitors would be able to teach [self-management] because I wasn’t sure that my students would have the cognitive ability to grasp it,” Swearingen said. “It’s something I’m extremely excited about.” Read More
