Interactive Health Technologies, LLC, a leader in developing heart rate monitors for on-campus and virtual student physical fitness and emotional wellness programs, has released its newest monitor: the IHT Spirit Heart Rate Monitor.
“The launch of our next-generation monitor marks a new chapter in our ongoing mission to deliver thoughtful, innovative solutions for students, their families, and the educators who support them,” IHT founder and CEO Jen Ohlson said. “Designed specifically for children and young adults, the IHT Spirit Monitor uses smart, intuitive heart rate technology to help students take greater ownership of their physical and emotional wellness. It serves as a bridge between mind and body — helping students understand how they feel, how they move, and how those experiences shape their daily lives — while giving teachers, parents, and health care providers a simpler, more effective way to support that growth.”
The new IHT Spirit Heart Rate Monitor delivers improved heart rate accuracy, enhanced real-time feedback and comprehensive data to students and teachers, and streamlines classroom management for teachers using a Bluetooth connection.
IHT unveiled the new heart rate monitor during the annual SHAPE America National Convention. To request more information or begin pre-ordering Spirit heart rate monitors for the 2025-26 school year, contact IHT via email or phone at 512-522-9354.
Enhanced Physical and Emotional Feedback
The IHT Spirit Heart rate monitor continues to provide real-time feedback displaying both actual heart rate and heart rate zone as identified by color (blue, yellow and red). Beyond the traditional feedback, the IHT Spirit monitor provides expanded feedback screens for physical and emotional feedback that include:
- Progress toward meeting the session goal as shown by total time spent in target heart rate zones
- Displays minimum and maximum heart rate during sessions
- Time of day
The enhanced feedback is easily accessible to and understood by students of all ages.
The Marker Feature: Linking Physical and Emotional Experiences to Specific Moments
The IHT Spirit heart rate monitor also gives the wearer the ability to mark specific moments during a PE or activity session or when worn all day for emotional biofeedback on the heart rate graph. Marks can be added to note a student’s perceived change in heart rate, emotional events (ranging from excitement to anxiety) throughout the day or class, or to track things such as recovery heart rate - a key component of cardiovascular fitness.
To add a mark to the heart rate graph, students press and hold the screen of their monitor for approximately 5 seconds. While performing the press and hold, students will see cues designed to help them relax, such as the word “breathe” on the screen. When the relaxation message clears, the mark has been added to the summary graph and report, which can be instantly sent to students and parents once the monitor is returned (deactivated by the teacher) at the end of the class or session.
Simplifying Class Management for Teachers
The IHT Spirit heart rate monitor uses Bluetooth technology to both simplify and streamline the pickup (start) and return (stop) process. Paired with the new IHT Spirit Classroom App, teachers can use any Android device to start all of the heart rate monitors simultaneously using any internet connection, including cellular or WiFi.
This eliminates the need for students to use an NFC reader connected to the teacher’s computer to start their monitors individually. At the end of class, the teacher can use the same process to stop all of the IHT Spirit monitors simultaneously, again eliminating the need for students to use the reader and teacher’s computer to return their monitors.
About IHT: IHT’s Spirit System is an integrated web-based heart rate and assessment system that connects students with daily fitness, mental and emotional skill development, and academic outcomes from K-12th grade. The Spirit System curriculum and email feedback provides teachers and parents the tools to support students. By moving away from the “one size fits all” approach, IHT individualizes the process, creating greater autonomy and personal responsibility while empowering students to take control of their physical fitness and emotional health throughout the school day.
